The impact vests compared to the classic life jackets do not have buoyancy approval so they do not give you support, their purpose is to simply protect you when you fall; the advantage is to have a jacket that remains stationary on the body without bothering if it is used for kitesurfing or windsurfing with the harness, which instead the approved life jacket that we all know once worn moves a lot and is quite annoying if used with the band trapeze. Between kitesurf / windsurf impact jackets and wakeboard ones the difference is simply that kitesurf / windsurf impact jackets do not have padding on the abdominal and lumbar part as the trapezium will be positioned in this area (a padding underneath could be annoying ), while the wakeboard ones are completely padded up to the lower part, to protect you from falls on the boxes or rails inside the parks.
